Description: Manages Compaq WL400 802.11 wireless adapter extended configuration and radio frequency parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WL400-DOT11EXT-MIB?

WL400-DOT11EXT-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB module for the Compaq WL400 802.11 wireless network adapter, extending the standard 802.11 MIB with additional radio and station-management parameters. It exposes wireless-specific configuration and state data covering the client's association, power-management behavior, channel selection, and current network attachment details. For monitoring purposes it is primarily useful for tracking software/radio configuration and connection status rather than classic hardware health metrics: an admin can check association ID, current BSSID/SSID, operational channels, and signal quality levels to confirm a wireless client is properly associated to its access point and operating with acceptable link quality. It depends on and extends the base IEEE 802.11 MIB framework (dot11 objects), of which it is explicitly an extension module. It is typically deployed for monitoring legacy Compaq/HP WL400-series wireless client adapters in enterprise wireless LAN deployments from the early 2000s. Engineers can download the WL400-DOT11EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WL400-DOT11EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Compaq WL400 802.11 wireless network adapter

Monitoring Examples

An administrator could poll smtCurrentBSSID and smtCurrentSSID to confirm which access point and network a WL400 adapter is currently associated with, and smtAssociationID to verify the client successfully completed 802.11 association. smtQualityLevel0 and smtQualityLevel1 would be monitored over time to detect degrading radio signal quality that could explain intermittent connectivity. smtPowerSaveInterval and smtListenInterval reveal the adapter's power-management timing, useful when diagnosing delayed packet delivery to a sleeping client.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current BSSID/SSID association
  • association ID
  • signal/link quality level
  • operational channel
  • power-save interval
  • listen interval
