Category: Web Content Filtering and Security
Description: Manages Blue Coat WCCP (Web Cache Communication Protocol) service groups, routers, and cache redirection statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WCCP-MIB?
This is a Blue Coat device-specific MIB for monitoring WCCP (Web Cache Communication Protocol) on Blue Coat cache/proxy appliances that participate in transparent web caching behind a WCCP-enabled router. It exposes a WCCP-enabled flag and a per-service table of redirection statistics, including packets and bytes redirected at normal and low priority. Its monitoring value is software/service status: confirming WCCP is actually enabled and, more importantly, that traffic redirection counters are actively incrementing - flat or zero counters despite WCCP being enabled point to a broken WCCP negotiation or GRE tunnel between the router and the cache engine. It implements the Cisco-originated WCCP protocol as run on Blue Coat's own device, complementing (but distinct from) router-side WCCP implementations. It is deployed on Blue Coat ProxySG/cache appliances acting as WCCP cache engines for transparent web caching in enterprise networks, where WCCP-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms redirection is functioning correctly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WCCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Blue Coat ProxySG/cache appliances
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll deviceWccpEnabled to confirm WCCP is active, then check deviceWccpValueTable indexed by deviceWccpIndex/deviceWccpServiceID for deviceWccpPacketsRedir and deviceWccpBytesRedir - flat or zero counters despite deviceWccpEnabled being true would indicate the router isn't redirecting traffic to this cache engine - while deviceWccpPacketsLowRedir/deviceWccpBytesLowRedir show lower-priority redirected traffic volume.
What Can Be Monitored
- WCCP enabled state
- per-service WCCP configuration
- packets redirected
- bytes redirected
- low-priority redirected packets/bytes
