What Is WAN-RESTORAL-REROUTE-MIB?

WAN-RESTORAL-REROUTE-MIB is an IBM-specific MIB (object prefix "ibm") for managing WAN link restoral and rerouting on IBM WAN access/routing equipment, tracking backup-link activation when a primary WAN circuit fails and the traffic rerouting that results. It exposes a primary-link restoral table with one row per monitored primary link, recording whether restoral is enabled, currently active, how long a restoral event lasted, and how many restoral attempts/successes have occurred, plus a companion table for rerouting events. From a monitoring standpoint it is squarely fault/failover oriented: an admin uses it to detect when a primary WAN link has failed and backup restoral kicked in, how many packets were forwarded during the outage, and whether restoral attempts are failing repeatedly, indicating a persistent link or hardware problem. It complements standard interface MIBs by referencing primary and secondary interface indexes, tying restoral state to specific network interfaces defined elsewhere (e.g., IF-MIB). It is deployed on IBM WAN routers/gateways in networks that use dual/backup WAN links for resiliency, such as branch routers with a primary leased line and a dial/backup circuit. Engineers can download the WAN-RESTORAL-REROUTE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Walking ibmWanRestoralTable (ibmWanRestoralEntry, indexed by ibmwrsPriNetifIndex/ibmwrsSecNetifIndex) and checking ibmwrsEnabled and ibmwrsActive tells an admin whether restoral is configured and currently engaged for a given primary/secondary link pair. ibmwrsDuration and ibmwrsAttempts/ibmwrsActuals reveal how long the current restoral event has lasted and how many restoral attempts have succeeded versus been tried, flagging a primary link that keeps failing to restore. ibmwrsFwdPkts shows how much traffic is being forwarded over the backup path, and the ibmWanRerouteTable (ibmWanRerouteEntry) tracks corresponding traffic-reroute events during the outage.
