All MIBs › UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD
Category: Net-SNMP and Linux
Description: An older version of the UCD-SNMP-MIB providing system monitoring objects, superseded by the current UCD-SNMP-MIB.
IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.
What Is UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD?
UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD is an older, superseded revision of the well-known UCD-SNMP-MIB (now part of Net-SNMP), which provided general-purpose system monitoring extensions for Unix-like hosts before being replaced by the current UCD-SNMP-MIB. It exposes process-monitoring objects (a table of watched processes with name, min/max instance count, and error state) along with an "extensible" table framework for running custom shell-script-based checks. Its core purpose is monitoring software status: whether specific processes/services are running within expected count bounds, and reporting any resulting error flags and messages, plus generic extensible command output that admins used for ad hoc health checks. Being an older revision, it has largely been superseded by the current UCD-SNMP-MIB and NET-SNMP-EXTEND-MIB, so it depends conceptually on that later, more complete module. It would have been deployed on legacy Unix/Linux hosts running early UCD-SNMP agent versions for basic process and script-based system health checks. Engineers can download the UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in UCD-SNMP-MIB-OLD. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Unix/Linux server running legacy UCD-SNMP agent
Monitoring Examples
An admin would walk the processes table (processIndex, processNames) to confirm a named daemon like sshd or httpd is running, checking processCount against the configured processMin/processMax bounds. If the count falls outside those bounds, processErrorFlag is set and processErrMessage explains the failure (e.g., "too few processes running"), with processErrFix potentially indicating a configured corrective command. The extensible/extensibleIndex/extensibleNames objects similarly expose ad hoc script check results for other custom conditions.
What Can Be Monitored
- monitored process name
- running process count
- process count min/max thresholds
- process error flag
- process error message
- extensible/custom script check results

RFC description
Legacy MIB for monitoring running processes and system resource statistics on UCD/Net-SNMP agents.
Start monitoring Unix/Linux server running legacy UCD-SNMP agent (watched-process count/error-state status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
