Description: Monitors Synology NAS service availability including file sharing, backup, and application services.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SYNOLOGY-SERVICES-MIB?
SYNOLOGY-SERVICES-MIB is a Synology module for monitoring the availability and usage of DiskStation Manager (DSM) services on a Synology NAS, such as file-sharing, backup, and application services. It exposes a per-service table listing each service's name and the number of currently connected users. Its monitoring value is software/service status: confirming which NAS services are active and how many clients are using each one, which helps detect a service that is down (zero users where usage is expected) or overloaded (unusually high concurrent user counts). It is a self-contained Synology-specific module without notable dependency on other standard MIBs. It is deployed on Synology DiskStation/RackStation NAS appliances in home, SMB, or enterprise file-storage environments. Engineers can download the SYNOLOGY-SERVICES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYNOLOGY-SERVICES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Synology NAS (DiskStation/RackStation)
Monitoring Examples
An admin walks the synologyServiceTable/serviceEntry, using serviceInfoIndex and serviceName to identify each DSM service (e.g., file sharing or backup), and monitors serviceUsers for that service. A service showing zero serviceUsers when clients are known to be actively connecting would indicate that service has silently failed or stopped accepting connections on the NAS.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-service availability
- connected user count per service
