Category: Network Management Infrastructure, SNMP Agent and Subagent

Description: Manages Sun Solstice Enterprise Agent proxy configuration and proxied agent communication.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SUN-SEA-PROXY-MIB?

SUN-SEA-PROXY-MIB is a Sun Microsystems proprietary MIB managing snmpdx, the Solstice Enterprise Agent (SEA) master agent daemon that proxies SNMP requests to registered sub-agents. Its objects cover status/resource-config file paths, configuration directory, trap port, sub-agent name check, poll interval, and max agent timeout, a sub-agent table (ID, status, timeout, port number, registration/access-control file, executable path, version, process ID, name, uptime, watchdog time), and a sub-tree-configuration table mapping OID sub-trees to their owning sub-agent. As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm which sub-agent is responsible for a given OID sub-tree and watch its process health via watchdog time. It is deployed on Sun Microsystems Solaris hosts running the Solstice Enterprise Agent. Engineers can download the SUN-SEA-PROXY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SUN-SEA-PROXY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun Microsystems Solaris hosts (Solstice Enterprise Agent)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks sunSubAgentWatchDogTime to confirm a registered SEA sub-agent is still responsive before troubleshooting a portion of the OID tree that stopped returning data on a Solaris host.

What Can Be Monitored

  • sub-agent registration, process health, and OID sub-tree ownership
