Category: Miscellaneous and Generic MIBs
Description: Provides SFA device identification, firmware version, and hardware configuration information.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SFA-INFO?
SFA-INFO is a vendor module for DataDirect Networks (DDN) SFA-series storage array platforms, providing device identification, firmware version, and hardware configuration information alongside environmental health data. It exposes tables for temperature sensors and cooling fans, plus a general event log, giving a hardware-health-centric view of the storage enclosure. Its core monitoring value is hardware status: administrators track per-sensor temperature readings and status (tempTable/tempEntry with tempEncId/tempEncPos identifying the enclosure and position) and per-fan operational status (fanTable/fanEntry), while eventLog surfaces significant hardware or system events for after-the-fact diagnosis. There is no indication in this excerpt of dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the vendor's private enterprise tree. It is deployed on DataDirect Networks SFA storage array controllers/enclosures in high-performance and HPC storage environments where environmental health directly affects data availability, which is the environmental telemetry the SFA-INFO MIB is designed to expose.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SFA-INFO. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- DataDirect Networks (DDN) SFA storage array
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would walk tempTable (tempIndex, tempEncId, tempEncPos, tempStatus) to check every temperature sensor across the array's enclosures, watching for a tempStatus transition out of normal that indicates an overheating shelf. Similarly, walking fanTable (fanIndex) reveals the operational status of each cooling fan, so a failed or slowing fan can be replaced before it causes a thermal event; eventLog would then be checked to confirm whether the array already logged the corresponding fan-failure or over-temperature event.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-sensor temperature and status
- per-enclosure/position identification
- cooling fan operational status
- system/hardware event log
