Description: Manages SALIX Technologies product plug-in module inventory and operational status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SALIX-PRODUCT-PLUGIN-MIB?

SALIX-PRODUCT-PLUGIN-MIB is a vendor-specific SALIX Technologies MIB that extends the ATM Forum's M4 interface MIB (ATM-FORUM-M4-MIB) with hardware-specific management objects for pluggable modules ('plug-in units') in SALIX's HNE (Hybrid Network Element) chassis platform. It defines per-plug-in-type tables indexed by entPhysicalIndex, paralleling the ATM Forum plug-in unit table: a Data Processor Unit table (processor type), a Line Interface Unit table (orderwire enable/SONET line/layer selection), a Sync module table (primary/secondary slot identification), a Transcoder table (DSP health via percent-working-DSP and server type), and a DS3 LIU table (group membership). Monitoring it is primarily about hardware inventory and health for SALIX's modular chassis, particularly the Transcoder's percent-working-DSP object, which surfaces partial hardware failure that a simple up/down status wouldn't capture. It depends on the SALIX-MIB for its platform root and on ATM-FORUM-M4-MIB for the underlying plug-in unit indexing, and the SALIX-PRODUCT-PLUGIN-MIB MIB is the reference administrators load into their MIB browser to decode plug-in unit OIDs from SALIX HNE inventory polls.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SALIX-PRODUCT-PLUGIN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SALIX Technologies HNE (Hybrid Network Element) chassis plug-in modules (DPU, LIU, Sync, Transcoder, DS3 LIU cards)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the Transcoder plug-in table for its percent-working-DSP value on a given card; a value below 100% while the card otherwise reports as installed would indicate partial DSP failure, meaning some VoIP transcoding/announcement capacity has been silently lost even though the card itself hasn't failed outright.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Data Processor Unit processor type/identification
  • Line Interface Unit orderwire configuration
  • sync module primary/secondary slot assignment
  • Transcoder percent-working-DSP health
  • Transcoder server type (VoIP/announcement/universal)
  • DS3 LIU group membership
