What Is RFC1215-MIB?
RFC1215-MIB is a foundational IETF standards-track module that defines the SNMPv1 TRAP-TYPE macro and the generic-trap conventions used to construct notification (trap) definitions in other MIB modules. Rather than exposing polled data objects of its own, it provides the macro syntax and standard generic trap categories (coldStart, warmStart, linkDown, linkUp, authenticationFailure, egpNeighborLoss) — effectively the canonical RFC1215-MIB OID list for generic traps — that other MIBs reference when defining their own alarm/fault notifications. Because of this, it underlies fault and event monitoring across the SNMP ecosystem — every SNMPv1-style trap indicating a device reboot, interface state change, or authentication failure ultimately traces its convention back to this module, even though it doesn't itself report hardware or software status directly. It has no dependency beyond the base SNMPv1 SMI framework, of which it is effectively a companion piece. It is not deployed as a standalone monitoring source but is present conceptually wherever SNMPv1 trap generation is used, across virtually any managed network device.

Monitoring Examples
This module defines only the TRAP-TYPE macro and the standard generic trap numbers (e.g., coldStart, linkDown, linkUp, authenticationFailure) rather than any pollable objects or tables, so there is no direct monitoring/polling scenario; its role is purely to standardize how other MIBs declare trap notifications.
