RFC-1155-SMI

Establishes SMIv1 base types, object definitions, and the OID structure specified in RFC 1155.

RFC-1155-SMI is the foundational IETF 'Structure of Management Information' (SMIv1) module that defines the basic building blocks for all SNMPv1 MIBs — the ObjectName/ObjectSyntax types, the OBJECT-TYPE macro, and the root OID branches such as internet, mgmt, private, and enterprises. It does not describe any vendor or device; instead it is a pure definitional/standards module that every other MIB implicitly or explicitly depends on. It exposes no runtime data of its own — no interfaces, counters, environmental sensors, or fault traps — so it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status. Virtually every other MIB in an SNMP deployment (vendor-specific and IETF alike) depends on the types and OID tree it establishes, making it a universal dependency rather than an optional one. It is present, at least conceptually, in every SNMP-managed environment as the base layer beneath all other MIBs, and any RFC-1155-SMI OID lookup will point back to bare tree roots like internet, mgmt, private, and enterprises rather than a device-specific branch.

This module contains no monitorable data objects — it only defines syntax types and OID tree roots used by other MIBs — so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe for it directly.
