Category: DSL and Broadband Access

Description: Configures and monitors DHCP server and relay agent operation on Redstone Communications routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is REDSTONE-DHCP-MIB?

REDSTONE-DHCP-MIB is a Redstone Communications enterprise MIB for the company's edge/access routers, covering DHCP relay agent and proxy configuration. It exposes a relay-server table listing configured DHCP relay-server addresses, along with scalars controlling relay-agent-information insertion and enabling relay/proxy behavior. Its monitoring role is largely configuration-verification for a critical software service: confirming rsDhcpRelayServerTable lists the correct upstream DHCP servers and that rsDhcpRelayAgentInfoEnable is set as intended, since a misconfigured or unreachable relay server would prevent subscribers from obtaining IP addresses. It is a self-contained Redstone enterprise MIB with no explicit dependency on external standard MIBs, though it parallels the function of the standard DHCP-relay concepts described in RFC 3046. It is deployed on Redstone Communications routers acting as DHCP relay agents at the network edge, forwarding client DHCP requests to centralized servers. Engineers can download the REDSTONE-DHCP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-DHCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redstone Communications edge router

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check rsDhcpRelayServerTable (rsDhcpRelayServerEntry) for rsDhcpRelayServerAddress and rsDhcpRelayServerRowStatus to confirm the expected upstream DHCP server(s) are configured and active on the relay agent. If rsDhcpRelayAgentInfoEnable is disabled unexpectedly, DHCP relay-agent-information options (used for subscriber identification) would stop being inserted, which could disrupt server-side address-pool selection logic tied to circuit/remote ID. This is primarily a configuration-audit MIB rather than one with rich runtime statistics.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP relay agent enable state
  • DHCP relay server addresses
  • relay/proxy row status
  • relay agent information insertion setting
