Description: Manages bridge domain configuration and MAC forwarding on Redback SmartEdge routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-BRIDGE-MIB?
RBN-BRIDGE-MIB is a vendor-specific module for Redback SmartEdge routers that manages bridge domain configuration and MAC-layer forwarding, including bridge group naming, per-circuit bridge port status, and bridge ID assignment. It exposes tables mapping bridge groups to circuit descriptors and port states, plus notifications for bridge circuit state changes. Its monitoring value centers on layer-2 fault and status detection: the rbnBridgeCircuitStateEvent notification, together with rbnBridgeCircuitStatus and rbnBridgePortPreviousState, reveals when a bridged circuit/port transitions (e.g., goes down or changes forwarding state), which is the primary hardware/software fault signal this MIB provides for bridge domains. It builds on standard bridge/MAC forwarding concepts (conceptually related to the IETF BRIDGE-MIB) though implemented as a Redback-specific enterprise module. It is typically deployed on Redback SmartEdge routers providing Ethernet bridging/VPLS-style services in metro and access networks. Engineers can download the RBN-BRIDGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Redback SmartEdge router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would subscribe to rbnBridgeCircuitStateEvent and check rbnBridgeCircuitStatus per rbnBridgeCircuitDescriptor to detect when a bridged circuit transitions to a down or degraded state. rbnBridgePortPreviousState would be inspected to understand the port's state immediately before the change, aiding root-cause analysis of a bridge domain flap. rbnBridgeIdTable/rbnBridgeIdEntry (rbnBridgeName, rbnBridgeId) would be checked to confirm bridge group naming and ID assignment are correct, and rbnBridgePortCctDescrTable/rbnBridgePortCctDescrEntry to verify which circuits belong to which bridge port.
What Can Be Monitored
- bridge circuit port status
- bridge circuit state-change notifications
- bridge group to circuit mapping
- bridge ID assignment
- previous port state history
