Module: RADLAN-PIM-BSR-MIB

OID (symbolic): RADLAN-PIM-BSR-MIB::rlPimBsrCandidateRPAdvTimer

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.220.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: TimeTicks

Access: read-only

Description: The time remaining before the local router next sends a Candidate-RP-Advertisement to the elected BSR.

This will be zero if the C-RP is shutting down or any of the following conditions are true: - the entity is not active - the row is inactive - the group prefix list is invalid - the configured C-RP address is not local.

What is rlPimBsrCandidateRPAdvTimer?

This read-only value is the time remaining before the local router next sends a Candidate-RP-Advertisement message to the elected Bootstrap Router (BSR). It gives an admin visibility into the C-RP advertisement schedule, and it reads zero if the C-RP is shutting down, the row is inactive, the group prefix list is invalid, or the configured RP address isn't local. An admin troubleshooting a multicast RP that never gets elected would check this timer to confirm advertisements are actually being scheduled and sent.

Start monitoring Marvell (formerly RADLAN) Layer 3 switches/routers (PIM Bootstrap Router) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the RADLAN-PIM-BSR-MIB::rlPimBsrCandidateRPAdvTimer OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Marvell (formerly RADLAN) Layer 3 switches/routers (PIM Bootstrap Router) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Marvell (formerly RADLAN) Layer 3 switches/router (PIM Bootstrap Router) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rlPimBsrCandidateRPAdvTimer into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The time remaining before the local router next sends a Candidate-RP-Advertisement to the elected BSR. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a TimeTicks-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value stays unexpectedly high or low relative to what you'd expect for this timer, since that can indicate a stuck or stale state. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
