Description: IETF PWE3 draft-05 textual conventions MIB providing updated shared data types and object identities for pseudo-wire service MIBs over packet-switched networks

What Is PW-TC-DRAFT05-MIB?

PW-TC-DRAFT05-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF PWE3 (Pseudo-Wire Emulation Edge-to-Edge) draft module defining shared textual conventions and OBJECT-IDENTITY values used across the family of pseudo-wire MIBs that manage circuit emulation services carried over packet-switched (MPLS/IP) networks. It defines no monitorable objects of its own; it supplies the common data types and identity values that the companion service-specific PW MIBs use to represent pseudo-wire type, status, and encapsulation consistently. As a result it has no direct role in reporting hardware or software status—pseudo-wire up/down state, VCCV status, or performance counters are reported by the MIBs that import these conventions, not by this draft module itself. It is an explicit dependency of the broader PWE3 MIB suite (superseding earlier PW-TC-MIB drafts) used to manage pseudo-wires at PE routers. It is used wherever provider-edge (PE) routers, from any vendor implementing PWE3 pseudo-wire services, expose SNMP instrumentation for pseudo-wire connections. Engineers auditing an older pseudo-wire deployment may still need to browse the PW-TC-DRAFT05-MIB OID definitions to interpret status values reported by devices that have not yet migrated to the finalized textual-convention module.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PW-TC-DRAFT05-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • provider-edge (PE) routers implementing PWE3 pseudo-wire services

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only shared textual conventions and OBJECT-IDENTITY values for the PWE3 MIB family and has no pollable objects of its own. Real pseudo-wire monitoring—connection status, VCCV state, performance counters—happens through the companion PW-MIB and its service-specific siblings that import these conventions. There is no standalone monitoring scenario for this draft module.
