Description: Manages virtual system (VSYS) configuration, resource allocation, and policy separation on NetScreen firewalls.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETSCREEN-VSYS-MIB?
NETSCREEN-VSYS-MIB is a Juniper/NetScreen enterprise MIB for managing virtual systems (VSYS), the logical partitions used on NetScreen firewalls to separate configuration, resources, and security policy among multiple tenants or departments on one physical appliance. It exposes a configuration table listing each virtual system's ID and name. Its monitoring value is mainly around configuration/inventory status: an administrator can enumerate which virtual systems are provisioned on the firewall and confirm their identifiers/names match expected tenant assignments, useful for auditing multi-tenant firewall deployments. It is a self-contained NetScreen proprietary MIB with no indicated dependency on other standard MIBs. Deployment context is NetScreen (legacy Juniper ScreenOS) firewalls used in managed-service or multi-tenant environments where VSYS partitioning isolates customers or departments, where NETSCREEN-VSYS-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm each tenant's virtual system remains correctly provisioned.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETSCREEN-VSYS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper/NetScreen (ScreenOS) firewall
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls nsVsysCfgTable to enumerate each nsVsysCfgId/nsVsysCfgName pair, confirming that all expected tenant virtual systems remain provisioned on the firewall. An unexpected missing or renamed entry in the table would flag an unauthorized configuration change to the multi-tenant VSYS setup.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured virtual system ID
- virtual system name
- virtual system inventory/count
