Category: Performance Monitoring

Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication Service Assurance Agent (SAA) test configuration for network performance measurement.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-SAA-MIB?

PRVT-SAA-MIB is a vendor MIB from BATM Advanced Communication implementing a Service Assurance Agent (SAA) for configuring and running OAM and performance measurement tests, including ITU-T Y.1731 and RFC 2544 style tests. It exposes profile-based test configuration objects specifying test type and performance thresholds for delay, jitter, and frame loss in both near-end and far-end directions. Its monitoring value is centered on network performance/software status: it lets an operator provision synthetic tests and then read back measured delay, jitter, and frame loss to detect service-level degradation on a monitored path, which is a proxy for underlying link or device health. It builds on the ITU-T Y.1731 and IETF RFC 2544 measurement standards for its test methodologies. It is deployed on BATM Advanced Communication carrier Ethernet equipment used to provide SLA-monitored services. Engineers can download the PRVT-SAA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-SAA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communication carrier Ethernet equipment

Monitoring Examples

An admin would configure prvtSaaProfileTable/prvtSaaProfileEntry with a prvtSaaProfileType of Y.1731 or RFC 2544 and then monitor prvtSaaProfileY1731DelayNearEnd/prvtSaaProfileY1731DelayFarEnd and prvtSaaProfileY1731JitterNearEnd/prvtSaaProfileY1731JitterFarEnd for a given prvtSaaProfileName. A sudden rise in prvtSaaProfileY1731FrameLossNearEnd or prvtSaaProfileRfc2544FrameLoss would indicate the monitored service path is experiencing packet loss, pointing to congestion or a failing link segment. Comparing near-end versus far-end delay/jitter values helps localize which direction of the path is degraded.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Y.1731 delay (near/far end)
  • Y.1731 jitter (near/far end)
  • Y.1731 frame loss (near/far end)
  • RFC 2544 frame loss
  • SAA test profile status
