Category: Routing
Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication IP routing table, static route configuration, and route redistribution policy.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PRVT-ROUTE-MIB?
PRVT-ROUTE-MIB is a BATM Advanced Communications enterprise MIB that manages IP routing information, exposing both dynamically learned and statically configured routes along with basic redistribution-related route attributes. It provides tables detailing route prefixes, next hops, route types, administrative distance, and flags. Administrators use it to monitor the software-level routing status of the device, including how long a route has been active (uptime) and which interface it egresses through, which helps detect route flapping or unexpected route withdrawal. It complements the standard IETF IP-FORWARD-MIB/ipRouteTable concepts but is a proprietary BATM extension rather than a standards-based module. It is deployed on BATM Advanced Communications routing/switching platforms used in telecom and enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the PRVT-ROUTE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-ROUTE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BATM Advanced Communications router/switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll prvtDynamicRouteTable/prvtDynamicRouteEntry, examining prvtDynamicRoutePrefix, prvtDynamicRouteNextHop, and prvtDynamicRouteIfName to confirm expected routes are present and pointing to the correct next hop and egress interface. A sudden change in prvtDynamicRouteUptime (reset to a low value) or a route disappearing from the table would indicate route flapping or a routing protocol reconvergence event, while prvtDynamicRouteFlags and prvtDynamicRouteType help distinguish static from dynamically learned entries during troubleshooting.
What Can Be Monitored
- route prefix and next hop
- route type (static/dynamic)
- route uptime/age
- administrative distance/metrics
- egress interface per route
- route flags
