This changes how the switch handles excess/violating MACs at capacity: filtering them creates hardware entries that actively drop their traffic, while ignoring them skips that bookkeeping, which affects table usage and logging behavior. An admin on a switch with limited filter-entry hardware capacity might enable this to avoid consuming filter table space on violating MACs that are simply being denied learning.
