Category: Modems

Description: Provides SNMP management objects for the P8511 modem device management and status monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is P8511-MIB?

P8511-MIB is a vendor-specific (Comet-branded) SNMP module for the P8511 environmental/telemetry monitoring device, which reads multiple sensor channels and reports their values and alarm states. It exposes a general sensorName identifier alongside per-channel objects (e.g., ch1Name, ch1Val, ch1IntVal, ch1Alarm, ch1LimHi, ch1LimLo, ch1LimHyst, ch1Delay) that repeat for each of the device's monitored channels, plus a historyTable/historyEntry for logged readings and a messageString for alarm text. Its monitoring purpose is explicitly hardware/environmental status: each channel represents a sensor input (such as temperature, humidity, or voltage) with configurable high/low limits, hysteresis, and delay, so the device raises ch1Alarm-style flags when a monitored physical condition goes out of range. It is a self-contained sensor-device MIB with no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP/system conventions. It is typically deployed in server rooms, cabinets, or remote sites as a dedicated environmental monitoring probe feeding alarms into a central NMS. Engineers can download the P8511-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in P8511-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Comet P8511 environmental/telemetry monitoring probe

Monitoring Examples

An admin monitoring a server room would poll ch1Name and ch1Val (and ch1IntVal for the raw/integer reading) to see the current value of channel 1 (e.g., temperature), compare it against ch1LimHi/ch1LimLo, and watch ch1Alarm to see if the value has breached those limits for longer than ch1Delay, with ch1LimHyst preventing alarm flapping near the threshold. If ch1Alarm activates, messageString carries a human-readable description of the condition, and historyTable/historyEntry retains a log of past readings for trend analysis. sensorName identifies the specific probe or channel group being reported.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-channel sensor value
  • per-channel alarm state
  • high/low alarm limits
  • alarm hysteresis and delay settings
  • historical reading log
