Description: Provides legacy Cisco IOS IP accounting and traffic matrix objects from early Cisco IOS versions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OLD-CISCO-IP-MIB?
OLD-CISCO-IP-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB from Cisco Systems (dating to 1994) that supplements the standard RFC 1213 IP and IP-route tables with early Cisco IOS IP accounting and traffic-matrix objects, defined under the CISCO-SMI local branch. It extends ipAddrTable via lipAddrTable (adding locIPHow, locIPRedirects, locIPUnreach per address) and extends the routing table via lipRouteTable (locRtMask, locRtCount, locRtUses), while lipAccountingTable and lipCkAccountingTable build a source/destination traffic matrix (actSrc, actDst, actPkts, actByts, actViolation) plus a checkpointed snapshot of the same data for accounting reconciliation. Scalars like actThresh, actLostPkts, actLostByts, actAge, actCheckPoint, and ipNoaccess expose accounting-resource exhaustion and access-list violation counts. This lets an operator reconstruct which host pairs generated the most IP traffic through a router and detect when accounting data has been silently dropped due to memory limits, which plain interface counters cannot show. It depends on the standard IP MIB (RFC 1213) tables it indexes into and was deployed on early-1990s Cisco IOS routers running the ip accounting feature; administrators supporting that legacy gear can download the OLD-CISCO-IP-MIB file for their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OLD-CISCO-IP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IOS routers (early 1990s, ip accounting feature)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls lipAccountingTable to review actPkts and actByts for the top source/destination pairs, then checks actLostPkts and actAge; a nonzero and growing actLostPkts alongside a large actAge value indicates the IP accounting table has been overwhelmed and old traffic-matrix data is going stale or being dropped.
What Can Be Monitored
- source/destination traffic matrix packet and byte counts
- access-list violation counts per host pair
- lost accounting packets/bytes due to memory limits
- accounting data age
- additional IP address and route-table attributes (redirects, unreachables, route usage)
