All MIBs › OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB
Category: Legacy Cisco IOS
Description: Provides legacy Cisco IOS chassis slot inventory and card status objects from early Cisco IOS versions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB?
This is a legacy, vendor-specific Cisco MIB used in early Cisco IOS releases to expose basic chassis inventory information, including slot occupancy and installed card/module identity, predating Cisco's later, more comprehensive ENTITY-MIB-based hardware inventory model. It exposes chassis-level and slot/card status objects reflecting what hardware is physically installed in a router or switch chassis. Its role in monitoring is squarely hardware status: administrators used it to confirm which cards were present in which slots and detect a missing, failed, or newly inserted card, which was important for hardware inventory and fault detection on modular Cisco platforms before ENTITY-MIB became standard. Because no sample objects were provided, specific object names cannot be confirmed, but as a legacy MIB it has since largely been superseded by the IETF-standard ENTITY-MIB for chassis/card inventory. It was deployed on older modular Cisco IOS routers and switches with removable line cards or chassis slots. Engineers can download the OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- legacy modular Cisco IOS router/switch chassis
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so specific object names cannot be cited; conceptually this legacy module would have exposed per-slot card-type and card-status objects that an operator polled to confirm expected cards were present and functioning in a modular Cisco chassis, but this cannot be grounded in confirmed object names from the source data.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis slot occupancy
- installed card/module identity
- card status
