What Is OCTOPUSE-MIB?

OCTOPUSE-MIB is a Siemens-specific MIB (Siemens Information & Communication Networks, enterprise OID sni.siemensUnits.pn) for the Octopus E LAN 10/20/30 PABX telephone switching system (also referenced alongside the HiPath AllServe family). It exposes a broad set of management groups: octoControlGroup for system alarm state, software switchover/TFTP download control, and CPU load (octoLoadLevel); octoErrorHistoryGroup with an indexed octoErrorHistoryTable of timestamped error events including severity and slot/port location; octoSystemInfoGroup covering hardware/software version strings, per-slot and per-port status tables (octoSlotTable, octoPortTable), a LAN connection table, and hardware extension inventory; octoStatisticsGroup for per-feature usage counters; and octoCdrConfigGroup for configuring Call Detail Record (CDR) output over TFTP, TCP, or serial ports. Because it combines hardware/port state, CDR buffer health, and CPU load in one module, it's useful for monitoring whether a PABX card or port has gone into a warning/critical state (octoErrorSeverity, cardState, portState), whether CDR data is being delivered before the buffer overflows, and whether a pending software switchover is stalled. It is deployed on Siemens Octopus E-series PABX systems and relies on standard SNMPv2-SMI/TC imports for its DateAndTime and enumerated status types, and engineers troubleshooting call-record delivery on these systems often reference the OCTOPUSE-MIB download to inspect the CDR and error-history object definitions.
