Category: Nortel Passport WAN

Description: Manages ETSI QSIG signalling protocol configuration on Nortel MsCarrier Passport virtual network interfaces.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-VnetEtsiQsigMIB?

This Nortel MIB, part of the MscPassport family for the Nortel Passport WAN switching platform, manages ETSI QSIG signalling protocol configuration on virtual network (Vnet) signalling channels, QSIG being a standardized ISDN-based signalling protocol for private telephony networks. It exposes objects for provisioning QSIG signalling channel components and their Layer 2 timer parameters, such as retransmission and window-size timers. Its monitoring role is centered on signalling software/protocol health: administrators check whether QSIG channel components and their framers are correctly provisioned and active, and whether L2 timer values (T200, T203, N200) are set appropriately, since misconfigured timers can cause link-level signalling instability. It depends on the shared MscPassport component-object conventions (row status, storage type, indexing) and conceptually on the ETSI QSIG/ISDN Q.921-based Layer 2 standard. It is deployed on carrier Nortel Passport nodes providing private ISDN/QSIG interconnect between PBXs or virtual private network switching nodes. Engineers can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-VnetEtsiQsigMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-VnetEtsiQsigMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Passport WAN switch (ETSI QSIG virtual network signalling)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer checks mscSigChanEQsigRowStatusTable for a given mscSigChanEQsigIndex to confirm the QSIG signalling channel's row status is active, then reviews mscSigChanEQsigL2Table entries for mscSigChanEQsigT200 and mscSigChanEQsigN200 to verify Layer 2 retransmission timer and retry-count settings match the far-end PBX configuration. The associated mscSigChanEQsigFramer component status indicates whether the physical framing layer underneath the signalling channel is operational. Frequent QSIG link resets combined with mismatched T200/N200 values between the two ends is a classic cause of unstable QSIG signalling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • QSIG channel row status
  • Layer 2 timer values (T200, N200)
  • framer component status
  • signalling channel provisioning
