What Is NMS-MacAcl?
NMS-MacAcl is a vendor-specific MIB from NMS Communications that defines generic managed objects for MAC-based Access Control Lists, used to filter Layer 2 Ethernet frames by source or destination MAC address. It exposes configuration-oriented data: ACL rule entries, permit/deny actions, and the interfaces or ports to which the rules are applied. Rather than hardware health, this MIB's monitoring value is on the software/configuration side, letting administrators verify which MAC filtering rules are active and detect misconfiguration or unauthorized rule changes that could cause connectivity loss or a security gap. As a generic ACL MIB it likely parallels the structure of standard access-list MIBs but is implemented independently for NMS equipment. It is typically deployed on NMS Communications switching or gateway products where port-level MAC filtering is used for security or network segmentation. Engineers can download the NMS-MacAcl file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-MacAcl. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- nms Co., Ltd. switch or gateway (MAC-based ACL, vendor unidentified)
Monitoring Examples
No concrete object or table names were captured for this MIB, so a specific polling example cannot be grounded in real identifiers; the description indicates it defines generic ACL rule objects for MAC-based frame filtering. An operator would typically poll an ACL rule table to confirm the expected set of permitted/denied MAC addresses is still in force, and a missing or altered rule entry would indicate a configuration drift or tampering event. This should be read as a general characterization given the absence of sample objects.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC ACL rule entries
- permit/deny action per rule
- interface-to-ACL association
