Description: The number of IP datagrams that have been discarded because they needed to be fragmented but could not be. This includes IPv4 packets that have the DF bit set and IPv6 packets that are being forwarded and exceed the outgoing link MTU.

When tracking interface statistics, the counter of the outgoing interface is incremented for an unsuccessfully fragmented datagram.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the system, and at other times as indicated by the value of DiscontinuityTime.

What is me1200IpStatisticsInterfaceIpv4OutFragFails?

This counter counts datagrams that needed fragmenting but couldn't be, for example because the datagram had the don't-fragment bit set, or an IPv6 packet being forwarded exceeded the outgoing link's MTU, tallied for one specific IP interface, selected by the row's interface index for IPv4 traffic. A rising value while everything else looks healthy is usually the first sign of a misconfiguration or an attack, so admins graph it alongside the throughput counters rather than reading it alone.
