Description: The number of locally-addressed IP datagrams received successfully but discarded because of an unknown or unsupported protocol.

When tracking interface statistics, the counter of the interface to which these datagrams were addressed is incremented. This interface might not be the same as the input interface for some of the datagrams.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the system, and at other times as indicated by the value of DiscontinuityTime.

What is me1200IpStatisticsInterfaceIpv4InUnknownProtos?

This counter counts datagrams addressed to this device but dropped because the upper-layer protocol number they carried isn't one the device supports, tallied for one specific IP interface, selected by the row's interface index for IPv4 traffic. A rising value while everything else looks healthy is usually the first sign of a misconfiguration or an attack, so admins graph it alongside the throughput counters rather than reading it alone.
