Description: The number of input IP datagrams for which no problems were encountered to prevent their continued processing, but were discarded (e.g., for lack of buffer space). Note that this counter does not include any datagrams discarded while awaiting re-assembly.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the system, and at other times as indicated by the value of DiscontinuityTime.

What is me1200IpStatisticsInterfaceIpv4InDiscards?

This counter counts inbound datagrams dropped for a reason other than an error in the datagram itself, typically because the device ran out of buffer space, tallied for one specific IP interface, selected by the row's interface index for IPv4 traffic. A rising value while everything else looks healthy is usually the first sign of a misconfiguration or an attack, so admins graph it alongside the throughput counters rather than reading it alone.
