Description: The number of output IP datagrams for which no problem was encountered to prevent their transmission to their destination, but were discarded (e.g., for lack of buffer space). Note that this counter would include datagrams counted in OutForwDatagrams if any such datagrams met this (discretionary) discard criterion.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the system, and at other times as indicated by the value of DiscontinuityTime.

What is me1200IpStatisticsGlobalsIpv4OutDiscards?

This counter counts outbound datagrams dropped for a reason other than an error, such as running out of buffer space, including datagrams that were otherwise ready to be forwarded, tallied system-wide across every IP interface on the switch for IPv4 traffic. A rising value while everything else looks healthy is usually the first sign of a misconfiguration or an attack, so admins graph it alongside the throughput counters rather than reading it alone.
