What Is LanMgr-Mib-II-MIB?

LanMgr-Mib-II-MIB is a Microsoft-defined SNMP MIB (LAN Manager MIB-II) for managing network sessions, shares, users, and services on LAN Manager and Windows NT/2000-family systems, the SNMP management interface historically shipped with Microsoft's SNMP agent extension. It exposes common transport/communication statistics (comVersionMaj/Min, comType, comStatStart, and network I/O counters like comStatNumNetIOs and failure counters comStatFiNetIOs/comStatFcNetIOs) alongside a services table (svSvcTable) enumerating each running Windows service by name. It is explicitly used to monitor software status on the host: the network I/O success/failure counters reveal communication-layer errors, and the services table (svSvcName, svSvcNumber) lets an operator confirm expected Windows services are installed and running, functioning much like a process/service-status monitor. As a Microsoft-specific extension MIB, it exists alongside and conceptually depends on standard MIB-II (RFC 1213) for basic system/interface objects, adding LAN Manager-specific session/share/service detail on top. It is typically deployed on legacy Windows NT/2000 servers running Microsoft's SNMP service to give network management stations visibility into shares, sessions, users, and service health. An operator would poll comStatNumNetIOs alongside comStatFiNetIOs and comStatFcNetIOs to compute a network I/O failure rate and detect a degrading network stack on the Windows host. Walking svSvcTable/svSvcEntry to read svSvcName for each entry indexed by svSvcNumber reveals which Windows services are currently registered, letting an admin confirm a critical service is present and detect if an expected service has stopped or been removed. comVersionMaj/comVersionMin and comStatStart identify the LAN Manager component version and its start time, useful for confirming uptime since last restart.
