Description: IANA MIB defining textual conventions for SNMP transport protocol identifiers and domain enumerations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IANA-SNMP-PROTOCOL-TC?

IANA-SNMP-PROTOCOL-TC is an IANA-maintained, vendor-neutral standards MIB that defines textual conventions (enumerated types) for identifying SNMP transport protocols and domains, such as UDP, TCP, and other transport mappings used in SNMP operations. It does not expose runtime interface, environmental, or performance data itself; rather it supplies shared data-type definitions that other MIB modules import to represent transport protocol/domain values consistently. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status of a device, functioning purely as a schema/type-definition support module. Numerous other IETF standard MIBs (such as SNMP-TARGET-MIB, SNMP-NOTIFICATION-MIB, and transport-mapping MIBs) depend on the textual conventions defined here to represent SNMP transport addressing consistently. It is present on essentially any SNMP-capable device as a supporting/imported module rather than something administrators poll directly. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IANA-SNMP-PROTOCOL-TC RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IANA-SNMP-PROTOCOL-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • any SNMP-managed network device

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only textual conventions (enumerated transport protocol/domain types), not runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; other MIBs import its type definitions to represent SNMP transport protocol values in their own tables.
