Category: Domain: Network Management, SNMP Framework, Vendor: Huawei

Description: Huawei SNMP extensions MIB providing proprietary SNMP management enhancements including MIB view and access control extensions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-SNMP-EXT-MIB?

HUAWEI-SNMP-EXT-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary module that extends the standard SNMP management framework with vendor-specific view and access-control enhancements on Huawei devices. Based on its sample objects, it consists almost entirely of conformance-group and compliance-statement definitions rather than instrumented runtime data, so it describes which SNMP extension capabilities an agent implements rather than exposing hardware or software telemetry itself. It therefore has little direct value for monitoring device hardware/software health; its role is administrative, governing how SNMP access control and views are extended beyond the RFC-standard SNMPv2-MIB/VACM behavior. It has a strong, explicit dependency on the standard SNMP framework MIBs (SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB, SNMPv2-MIB, and VACM-related MIBs), which it extends rather than replaces. It is deployed as part of the SNMP agent stack on Huawei network devices wherever finer-grained, vendor-specific SNMP access control is required. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HUAWEI-SNMP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-SNMP-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei network devices running an SNMP agent (routers, switches)

Monitoring Examples

The available sample objects (hwSnmpExtConformance, hwSnmpExtGroups, hwSnmpExtCompliances) are conformance/compliance container objects rather than pollable runtime data, so honestly there is no meaningful device-health monitoring scenario to describe here. Network management software instead uses these objects to determine which SNMP extension groups and compliance levels a given Huawei agent supports before attempting to use the corresponding access-control features.
