Description: Huawei RRPP (Rapid Ring Protection Protocol) MIB for managing proprietary Ethernet ring protection with sub-50ms recovery.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-RRPP-MIB?

HUAWEI-RRPP-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary SNMP module for managing the Rapid Ring Protection Protocol, a Layer 2 Ethernet ring-topology protection mechanism used on Huawei switches. It exposes configuration and operational-state data for RRPP domains, protection rings, ring nodes, and control VLANs, including which switch acts as the master node and which ports are blocked or forwarding. Administrators rely on it to monitor the hardware and software status of ring protection: the operational state of each ring port (blocking vs. forwarding), the master node's role, and whether protection switching has fired after a link failure, effectively substituting for slower Spanning Tree Protocol convergence monitoring. Because RRPP rings run over standard Ethernet interfaces and VLANs, this MIB has an implicit dependency on IF-MIB interface indices and Huawei's VLAN MIBs. It is typically deployed in Huawei metro Ethernet or campus ring networks that require sub-second failover after a ring link break, and a HUAWEI-RRPP-MIB download is available for administrators who need to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-RRPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei Ethernet switches
  • Huawei metro/campus ring-topology switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ring and ring-node objects (following Huawei's convention, tables such as an hwRrppRingTable/hwRrppRingNodeTable) to check each node's role (master/transit) and each control port's blocking or forwarding state. A port that suddenly transitions from blocking to forwarding, or a ring-state change, signals that a ring link has failed and protection switching has engaged. Repeated topology-change counts over time reveal a flapping ring link that needs physical attention before it causes an outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RRPP ring/domain status
  • ring node role (master/transit)
  • control port blocking/forwarding state
  • protection-switching events
  • control VLAN configuration
