Description: Huawei MAC Flapping Loop Protection (MFLP) MIB for detecting and suppressing MAC address flapping indicating network loops.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-MFLP-MIB?

HUAWEI-MFLP-MIB supports Huawei's MAC Flapping Loop Protection (MFLP) feature, a Layer 2 network-health mechanism that detects when a MAC address is seen alternating rapidly between different ports or VLANs, a classic symptom of a Layer 2 loop. The MIB itself is compact, largely exposing conformance and group objects (hwMflpConformance, hwMflpCompliances, hwMflpGroups) alongside the underlying loop-detection status data used by the feature. This makes it a fault/status MIB focused specifically on network-loop and MAC-instability detection rather than general hardware sensors: it lets an administrator confirm the feature is active and check whether MAC flapping events have been detected and mitigated (e.g., port shutdown) on a switch. It has no notable dependency beyond Huawei's own private enterprise MIB structure and standard bridge/MAC address table concepts. It is typically deployed on Huawei Ethernet switches in campus or metro networks where accidental physical loops or misconfigured redundant links are a risk. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HUAWEI-MFLP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-MFLP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the MFLP status objects to see whether any port has triggered flapping-loop protection, which typically also correlates with the switch's MAC address table showing the same MAC oscillating across ports. Detection of an active MFLP event on an access port would indicate a physical loop (e.g., a cable plugged into two switch ports) and prompt the admin to isolate that port before it destabilizes the whole VLAN. Because MFLP builds on standard bridge MAC-learning tables, cross-referencing with the switch's dot1dTpFdbTable can confirm which MAC address is flapping.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC flapping detection status
  • loop protection trigger/mitigation state
  • affected port/VLAN
