Description: Manages SAN aggregation switch port groups and inter-switch link configuration on HP/Comware FC switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-SAN-AGG-MIB?

HPN-ICF-SAN-AGG-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB for Fibre Channel SAN switches, managing SAN aggregation groups that bundle multiple FC ports together as a single logical inter-switch link for higher bandwidth and redundancy, analogous to Ethernet link aggregation but for Fibre Channel. It exposes a group table recording each aggregation group's member port list, per-member operational state list, previous and current negotiated link speed, and row status for adding/removing groups, plus a global maximum-members-per-group limit and notification objects for group events. For hardware/software status monitoring, the member-state list and current-versus-previous speed fields are the key health indicators, letting an operator detect a member FC link that has dropped out of the aggregation group or renegotiated to a lower speed, either of which reduces the aggregate group's effective bandwidth. It is specific to Fibre Channel inter-switch link aggregation concepts rather than an extension of a common IETF MIB. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware Fibre Channel SAN switches interconnected via multiple parallel FC links for storage-network resiliency and throughput. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-SAN-AGG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-SAN-AGG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware Fibre Channel SAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfSanAggGroupTable (via hpnicfSanAggGroupIndex) and inspect hpnicfSanAggMemberList alongside hpnicfSanAggMemberStateList to confirm every configured member port of an aggregation group is up and participating, catching a member that has silently dropped out. Comparing hpnicfSanAggGroupCurrentSpeed against hpnicfSanAggGroupPreviousSpeed would reveal a link that renegotiated to a lower speed, reducing aggregate throughput, and hpnicfSanAggMaxMemberNumber would be checked when planning to add a new port to ensure the group hasn't hit its member limit. hpnicfSanAggNotifications would fire when a member's state changes, prompting immediate investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • aggregation group member port list
  • per-member operational state
  • current vs. previous link speed
  • maximum members per group
  • aggregation group row status
