Description: Manages software feature license files, activation states, and expiry on HP/Comware networking devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-LICENSE-MIB?

HPN-ICF-LICENSE-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB for managing software feature licensing on the device, tracking license keys, activation files, and per-device license consumption. It exposes a device-info table keyed by physical index that records the device serial number, device ID type/value, hardware information, and the maximum versus currently used license count for that entity, along with a notification-enable scalar for license events. This MIB is squarely a software-status monitoring MIB: the used-versus-max license counters let an operator confirm the device has sufficient license capacity for enabled features and detect when a license is nearing exhaustion or has expired, which would otherwise silently disable functionality. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond ENTITY-MIB-style physical indexing. It is deployed across the HP/H3C Comware product line on any device where optional software features require activation licenses. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-LICENSE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-LICENSE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware router
  • HP/H3C Comware switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfLicenseDevInfoTable (via hpnicfLicensePhysicalIndex) and compare hpnicfLicenseUsedNum against hpnicfLicenseMaxNum to see how much of the licensed capacity is consumed, flagging an entity that is at or near its license ceiling. The hpnicfLicenseSN and hpnicfLicenseDeviceID/hpnicfLicenseDeviceIDType fields would be checked to confirm the license is bound to the correct hardware serial number, and hpnicfLicenseNotifyEnable would be set so that license-expiry or threshold-crossing traps are generated for proactive alerting rather than discovering an expired license after a feature stops working.

What Can Be Monitored

  • license used count vs. maximum count
  • device serial number bound to license
  • device ID/hardware info
  • license notification enable state
