Description: HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP MIB for Virtual Switch Redundancy Protocol (VSRP) configuration and failover state on HP SN devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-SN-VSRP-MIB?

HP-SN-VSRP-MIB is an SNMP MIB inherited from HP's ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) product line, used to configure and monitor VSRP (Virtual Switch Redundancy Protocol), a first-hop redundancy protocol similar to VRRP, on HP SN switches. It exposes per-interface and per-virtual-router configuration and operational state, including group operating mode and interface limits on how many virtual router IDs can be configured. This MIB is directly relevant to hardware/software fault monitoring because VSRP governs failover behavior, and snVsrpIfStateChangeTrap notifies administrators in near real time when an interface's redundancy role changes (e.g., master to backup), which is a critical high-availability event. It functions similarly to, and can be considered a proprietary counterpart of, the standard VRRP-MIB, though it is not directly derived from it. It is typically deployed in networks requiring gateway redundancy, such as data center or campus core layers where two or more HP SN switches share a virtual IP for first-hop resiliency. Engineers can download the HP-SN-VSRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-SN-VSRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP SN switch/router (Foundry-heritage)

Monitoring Examples

The module exposes snVsrpIfTable and snVsrpVirRtrTable to hold per-interface and per-virtual-router VSRP state, alongside snVsrpGroupOperModeVsrp for the group's operating mode and snVsrpIfMaxNumVridPerIntf/snVsrpIfMaxNumVridPerSystem for configured VRID capacity limits. An administrator would primarily watch for snVsrpIfStateChangeTrap events, since an unexpected master-to-backup transition on a formerly master interface would indicate a failover has occurred, possibly due to a link or device failure. snVsrpClearVrrpStat would be used operationally to reset counters after investigating such an event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VSRP interface/virtual-router state
  • master/backup role changes (failover events)
  • VRID capacity per interface and system
  • VSRP group operating mode
