Category: Domain: WAN, Protocol: PPP, Technology: Link Aggregation, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages Multilink PPP (MP) bundle configuration and bandwidth aggregation statistics on H3C WAN interfaces.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-MP-MIB?

HH3C-MP-MIB is an H3C-proprietary SNMP module for Multilink PPP (MP), a WAN technology that bundles multiple physical serial/PPP links into a single logical channel for higher aggregate bandwidth. It exposes configuration and status data describing the parent (father) channel, the individual bundled son channels, the slot on which the bundle resides, the bundle name, and the number of member links. For monitoring purposes it focuses on link-bundle software/protocol health rather than chassis hardware: it reports statistics such as lost fragments, reordered packets, unassigned packets, interleaved packets, and sequence numbers of sent/received packets, all of which reveal bundle synchronization problems or a failing member link. It is a vendor-specific extension layered on top of standard PPP/Multilink concepts (RFC 1990) rather than reusing the IETF Multilink MIB directly. It is typically deployed on H3C WAN routers or access devices that aggregate multiple E1/T1 or serial links into a single MP bundle for branch-office or leased-line connectivity. Engineers can download the HH3C-MP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-MP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C WAN routers
  • H3C access routers with Multilink PPP interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would monitor the son-channel count and bundle name fields to confirm all expected member links are still part of a Multilink PPP bundle, and check statistics like lost-fragment and reordered-packet counters to detect an unstable or intermittently failing member link. A rising unassigned- or interleaved-packet count alongside sequence-number gaps in the received/sent stream would point to fragmentation or synchronization issues across the bundle. Because the module lists no concrete sample object names here, exact table/column identifiers should be confirmed against the MIB source, but the description makes clear it covers per-bundle and per-son-channel counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Multilink PPP bundle membership
  • son (member) channel count
  • lost fragment count
  • reordered packet count
  • unassigned/interleaved packet counts
  • send/receive sequence numbers

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cMpLostFragments OID:

Select an H3C WAN/access router (Multilink PPP bundle status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cMpLostFragments into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of fragments of the MP link discarded because bad fragments received, or assembling packet failed, etc. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
