Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Technology: Switching/L2, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages RMON-based switch monitoring including port traffic statistics and history on H3C Layer 2 switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-LswSMON-MIB?

HH3C-LswSMON-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB that extends RMON-style switch monitoring with per-VLAN and enhanced port traffic statistics and history on H3C Layer 2 switches. It exposes counters and extension objects that supplement the standard RMON MIB, adding VLAN-aware statistics such as 802.1Q VLAN counts. Its monitoring focus is purely on traffic/performance data, packet and byte counters and VLAN statistics, used to detect traffic anomalies, congestion, or unexpected VLAN growth rather than physical hardware sensors. It is explicitly an extension of the IETF RMON MIB (RFC 2819) and the SMON MIB (RFC 2613), adding H3C-specific VLAN statistics on top of those standards. It is typically deployed on H3C access and aggregation switches where administrators need historical or real-time traffic analysis per port or VLAN. Engineers can download the HH3C-LswSMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-LswSMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C Layer 2 switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll hh3cdot1qVlanStatNumber to see how many VLANs currently have RMON-style statistics being collected, using the hh3csmonExtendObject group for H3C's extended counters beyond what standard SMON provides. An unexpectedly low or zero VLAN statistics count could indicate that VLAN monitoring was disabled or misconfigured on a switch that should be collecting traffic history. Because the module description was not captured, further table-level detail can't be confirmed beyond these top-level extension objects.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN statistics count
  • per-VLAN traffic counters
  • extended RMON statistics
