Category: Device Management, Vendor: Handco

Description: Provides SNMP management objects for Handco network equipment monitoring and configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HANDCO-SNMP-MIB?

This is a private UCD-SNMP-style extension MIB reused/rebranded under the "Handco" enterprise name, providing SNMP objects layered on the classic Net-SNMP/UCD-SNMP agent extensions for Linux-based network equipment. It exposes system identification data (hostname) and Linux netfilter/iptables firewall state, including chain names and packet/byte counters per chain. It is useful for monitoring the software-level configuration and traffic-filtering status of the device's firewall — specifically which iptables chains are active and how many packets each chain's rules have matched, which can reveal misconfigured ACLs or unexpected traffic being dropped/accepted. It is built directly on the UCD-SNMP (Net-SNMP) MIB extension model, so it depends on that MIB's conventions and likely coexists with the standard UCD-SNMP-MIB and HOST-RESOURCES-MIB. It is typically deployed on Linux-based Handco network appliances where administrators need basic SNMP visibility into iptables-based firewall activity alongside host identity. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HANDCO-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HANDCO-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Handco network appliance (Linux/Net-SNMP based)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the iptable/chainName table to enumerate configured iptables chains, then read chainCounter for each chainName entry to see per-chain packet/byte match counts — a chainCounter that stays at zero for a chain expected to see traffic would indicate a rule ordering problem or an unreachable chain, while hostname confirms which device is reporting.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device hostname
  • configured iptables chain names
  • per-chain packet/byte counters
