Category: Technology: VLAN, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB for VLAN mapping management translating customer VLAN IDs to service provider VLANs at network edges.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-VMAP-MIB?

H3C-VMAP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB implementing H3C's 802.1 VLAN Mapping feature, which translates customer VLAN IDs into service-provider VLAN IDs at network edge devices, commonly used in metro Ethernet and carrier-edge deployments. It exposes NNI (Network-to-Network Interface) state, one-to-one VLAN translation mappings, and many-to-one VLAN range mappings that aggregate multiple customer VLANs into a single provider VLAN. This MIB is primarily a configuration-verification tool, letting operators confirm that VLAN translation rules are correctly provisioned and active on edge ports rather than reporting hardware faults. As an implementation of the IEEE 802.1 VLAN mapping model under a private H3C tree, it aligns conceptually with 802.1ad/QinQ standards but is not itself a standard MIB. It is typically deployed on H3C/HPE Comware provider-edge switches in service-provider or metro Ethernet networks needing customer VLAN isolation and translation. Engineers can download the H3C-VMAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-VMAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C/HPE Comware provider-edge switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll h3cVMAP1to1Table/h3cVMAP1to1Entry to verify that h3cVMAP1to1Vlan is still correctly translated to h3cVMAP1to1TranslatedVlan, and check h3cVMAP1to1RowStatus to ensure the mapping remains active. For aggregated mappings, h3cVMAPNto1RangeTable/h3cVMAPNto1RangeEntry with h3cVMAPNto1StartVlan and h3cVMAPNto1EndVlan reveals which customer VLAN ranges are collapsed into a single provider VLAN. The h3cVMAPNNITable/h3cVMAPNNIEntry and h3cVMAPNNIState objects confirm whether the network-facing interface is correctly enabled for VLAN mapping. A mapping entry unexpectedly reporting an inactive row status would mean customer traffic on that VLAN is no longer being translated, likely causing service-provider VLAN mismatches.

What Can Be Monitored

  • one-to-one VLAN translation mappings
  • many-to-one VLAN range mappings
