What Is H3C-LBV2-MIB?

H3C-LBV2-MIB is a vendor-specific H3C MIB (version 2) for the device's built-in server load-balancing feature, used to distribute client traffic across pools of backend servers ("server farms") on H3C switches and security gateways with LB capability. It exposes configuration objects for load-balancing "actions" (policies naming a default and backup server farm) and virtual servers (VS), including connection limits and the currently in-use server farm. For monitoring purposes it is primarily a software/service-status MIB: it lets an operator see whether a virtual server's active server farm has failed over from its default to its backup, and whether configured connection limits are being approached, rather than exposing hardware sensors. It is a self-contained proprietary MIB with no strong dependency on IETF standard MIBs beyond generic SNMP conventions such as RowStatus. It is typically deployed on H3C load-balancing-capable switches or application-delivery appliances sitting in front of server clusters in a data center. Engineers can download the H3C-LBV2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll h3cLBv2ActionTable/h3cLBv2ActionEntry to compare h3cLBv2ActionDefaultSF against h3cLBv2ActionInUseSF for a given h3cLBv2ActionName — if they differ, the default server farm went down and traffic has failed over to h3cLBv2ActionBackupSF. Separately, polling h3cLBv2VSTable/h3cLBv2VSEntry for h3cLBv2VSConnectionsLimit versus current connection counts on a named virtual server (h3cLBv2VSName) reveals when a VS is nearing capacity. Enabling h3cLBv2TrapEnable ensures failover or threshold events generate SNMP traps instead of requiring constant polling.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cLBv2VSStatTotalConnections OID:

Select an H3C load-balancing switch/application-delivery gateway (server load balancing, v2) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cLBv2VSStatTotalConnections into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of connections that the virtual server received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
