Description: Greentech Ethernet Ring Protection MIB for managing ring topology redundancy and failover configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GERP-MIB?
GERP-MIB is a vendor MIB (Greentech) for Ethernet Ring Protection (ERP), a Layer 2 ring-topology redundancy protocol similar in purpose to ITU-T G.8032. It is primarily a configuration-oriented MIB, intended, per its own description, to ease configuration of the ring protection feature via SNMP tools rather than to expose extensive runtime statistics. To the extent it supports status monitoring, it would report ring/node role and link/port state so operators can confirm the protection ring is healthy and has not entered a failed or blocking state, the software-level fault condition most relevant to this technology. No specific dependency on other MIBs is evident from the available module description, though ERP implementations typically build on IF-MIB for interface references. It is deployed on carrier or enterprise Ethernet switches participating in a ring topology for network resiliency. Engineers can download the GERP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GERP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Greentech Ethernet switch with ring protection support
Monitoring Examples
No object or table names were captured for this module, so a specific polling example cannot be constructed without risking invented OIDs; based on its stated purpose, an administrator would use it to configure and verify ring protection parameters, such as ring/node roles and protected ports, via SNMP rather than to pull detailed traffic counters.
What Can Be Monitored
- ring protection configuration state
- ring/node role
- protected port/link status
