Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Vendor: MICROSENS

Description: MICROSENS G6 switch MIB for RMON-based traffic statistics collection and threshold monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is G6-RMON-MIB?

G6-RMON-MIB is a MICROSENS private MIB for its Generation 6 Ethernet switch family, providing RMON-style per-port traffic statistics and reset control. It exposes an ingressTable keyed by port index with counters for good and bad ingress octets, total packets, unicast, non-unicast, and broadcast frames, plus a global counter-clear control. This is fundamentally a performance/traffic monitoring MIB used to assess the operational health of each switch port: a rising ingressInBadOctets count on a port points to a physical-layer or cabling problem, while sudden spikes in ingressInBroadcasts can indicate a broadcast storm or loop on that segment. It parallels the structure of the standard IETF RMON MIB (RFC 2819) though implemented as a vendor-specific table rather than the standard one. It is deployed for per-port traffic health monitoring across fleets of MICROSENS G6 Ethernet switches. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the G6-RMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in G6-RMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • MICROSENS G6 Generation 6 Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

A network engineer would poll the ingressTable per ingressPortIndex, watching ingressInGoodOctetsLo/Hi and ingressInTotalPackets to trend normal traffic load, and ingressInBadOctets to catch physical errors. A sustained rise in ingressInBroadcasts or ingressInNonUnicasts on one port relative to others would point to a broadcast storm, misbehaving device, or a switching loop on that segment, and rmonClearAllCounter would be used to reset the baseline after remediation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ingress good/bad octet counts per port
  • ingress total packet count per port
  • unicast vs non-unicast/broadcast packet counts
  • per-port counter reset state
