Category: Technology: Logging/Syslog, Vendor: MICROSENS

Description: MICROSENS G6 switch MIB for system logging configuration including syslog server targets and severity filters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is G6-LOGGING-MIB?

G6-LOGGING-MIB is a MICROSENS vendor-specific MIB for the Generation 6 Ethernet switch family, modeling the switch's internal event-logging pipeline: an unlimited targetTable of syslog/SNMP-trap/local recipients (targetLogType, targetMinimumSeverity, targetTrapType, targetSnmpV3Username) each with its own severity filter and format preference, plus a historyConfigTable that lets an operator poll arbitrary CLI dotstrings on a schedule to build historical value charts. Operational status is exposed through statisticsTable (statisticsSyslogCounter, statisticsSyslogErrorCounter, statisticsTrapErrorCounter, statisticsLogfile1Size/2Size), a recentLogsTable holding the last 15 log events with severity and source, and a historyRecordsTable providing per-minute, per-hour, and per-day rolled-up samples of the configured history channels. This MIB is useful for confirming that log forwarding to external syslog/SNMP targets is actually succeeding rather than silently failing, and for reviewing recent switch events without needing external log infrastructure; it is deployed on MICROSENS G6 Ethernet switches and depends on the vendor's MICROSENS-G6-MIB for its management tree registration, giving administrators direct G6-LOGGING-MIB SNMP monitoring of the switch's own logging subsystem.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in G6-LOGGING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • MICROSENS G6 Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls statisticsTable to check statisticsSyslogErrorCounter against statisticsSyslogCounter for a switch's configured syslog target; a rising error count while the total counter also grows would indicate the syslog server is unreachable or rejecting messages, and cross-checking recentLogsTable would show whether critical events are being generated but not delivered.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured logging target list and severity filters
  • syslog/trap send and error counters
  • internal log file size and active logfile index
  • recent log events (severity, source, message)
  • historic polled-value charts (minute/hour/day)
