Description: Extreme Networks MIB for Virtual Chassis management, covering chassis virtualization topology and inter-module connectivity.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EXTREME-VC-MIB?

EXTREME-VC-MIB is an Extreme Networks enterprise MIB covering Virtual Chassis (VC) technology, which lets multiple physical Extreme switches operate and be managed as a single logical chassis. It exposes topology and inter-module connectivity data — which physical switches belong to the virtual chassis, their role/priority, and the health of the interconnect links binding them together — falling into the configuration/topology and fault categories. Its monitoring emphasis is on the software/hardware coordination status of the stack: confirming all expected member switches are present and synchronized in the virtual chassis, and that inter-switch links are up, since a split or degraded virtual chassis can silently reduce redundancy or cause a stack-wide outage. It builds on Extreme's standard chassis/interface MIBs since virtual chassis members map onto physical unit and port identifiers. It's deployed wherever Extreme Networks switches are stacked into a Virtual Chassis for simplified management and redundancy, and administrators can download the EXTREME-VC-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-VC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Extreme Networks switch (Virtual Chassis stack member)

Monitoring Examples

No specific object or table names were provided in the source metadata for this module, so a concrete polling example can't be grounded in real identifiers; in general terms, an operator would check this module's per-member and interconnect-link status objects to confirm all switches expected to belong to the Virtual Chassis are present and the stacking links between them are up, since a missing member or down interconnect link would indicate a partial stack failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • virtual chassis member presence
  • member role/priority
  • inter-switch interconnect link status
