etsysIfMauExtMasterSlaveStatus

Module: ENTERASYS-MAU-MIB-EXT-MIB

OID (symbolic): ENTERASYS-MAU-MIB-EXT-MIB::etsysIfMauExtMasterSlaveStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5624.1.2.59.1.1.2.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: If auto-negotiation is not enabled, the value of this object determines the master/slave state for this MAU. A value of master(1) will force the port to operate as a master. A value of slave(2) will force the port to operate as a slave.

What is etsysIfMauExtMasterSlaveStatus?

This deprecated setting manually forces a port's Ethernet MAU into master or slave clocking role, which only matters when auto-negotiation is turned off, since normally the two ends of a link negotiate this automatically. An administrator would have used this on older gigabit-copper links where auto-negotiation was disabled and the timing-clock roles needed to be set explicitly to get the link to come up at all. With the default value of slave, a port configured this way (with auto-negotiation off) would operate as the timing slave unless explicitly set to master.
