etsysIfMauExtMDIXStatus

Module: ENTERASYS-MAU-MIB-EXT-MIB

OID (symbolic): ENTERASYS-MAU-MIB-EXT-MIB::etsysIfMauExtMDIXStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5624.1.2.59.1.1.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The value of this object determines the MDI crossover state of the port. A value of auto(1) enables the port to automatically detect and activate the appropriate rx/tx crossover configuration. A value of mdix(2) will force the port to operate as a MDIX port, which is the standard wiring configuration for a switch port. A value of mdi(3) will force the port to operate as a MDI port, with no internal rx/tx crossover. This object is independent of and not affected by auto-negotiation setting.

What is etsysIfMauExtMDIXStatus?

This setting controls how a port's Ethernet MDI/MDIX crossover wiring behaves: auto lets the port automatically detect and configure the correct rx/tx pairing, mdix forces standard switch-port wiring, and mdi forces the pattern normally used on a straight-through cable to a hub or another switch's uplink. An administrator overrides the automatic default when connecting to older equipment that doesn't support auto-MDIX and needs a specific crossover setting to link up correctly, and the setting works independently of any auto-negotiation configuration on the port. With the default value of auto, the port automatically figures out the correct crossover configuration for whatever cable and device is plugged in.
