Description: Indicates the mode of operation of this bridge. The following operation modes are possible:
customerBridge(1) - Indicates the bridge is a MAC Bridge as specified by IEEE Std 802.1D or a VLAN Bridge as specified by IEEE Std 802.1Q.
providerBridge(2) - Indicates the bridge is an S-VLAN bridge or Provider Edge Bridge.
providerBackboneBridge(3) - Indicates the bridge is a Backbone Core Bridge or a Backbone Edge Bridge.
What is etsysIeee8021BridgeBaseMode?
This value identifies which IEEE 802.1 bridging mode the switch is operating in -- a standard customer/VLAN bridge, a provider edge S-VLAN bridge, or a provider backbone bridge. An admin sets this when configuring a switch's role in a carrier or campus network, determining whether it behaves as an ordinary VLAN bridge or as part of a provider's backbone/edge bridging infrastructure. Setting this to providerBridge(2) would configure the switch to operate as an S-VLAN Provider Edge Bridge rather than a plain customer bridge.
