Description: Provides extended interface management objects beyond standard IF-MIB for Dell network ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-rlInterfaces?

Dell-rlInterfaces is a Dell private MIB module that extends the standard IF-MIB with additional interface objects for switches running Dell's MTS (Modular Trident Switch) software. It exposes per-port configuration and operational state, including duplex mode, physical address type, transceiver type, port locking, back-pressure flow-control mode, VLAN tagging mode, and interface type. This makes it a hardware/software status MIB for monitoring switch port health: administrators can check operational vs. administrative duplex mismatches, port lock state (security), and transceiver type to detect misconfigured or failing links. It is designed to be used alongside the standard IETF IF-MIB, on which it depends for base interface indexing (ifIndex). It is typically deployed on Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches where operators need finer-grained port diagnostics than IF-MIB alone provides. Engineers can download the Dell-rlInterfaces file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-rlInterfaces. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches (MTS software)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling swIfTable/swIfEntry can compare swIfDuplexAdminMode against swIfDuplexOperMode to catch a port stuck in half-duplex despite being configured for full-duplex, a classic cause of collisions and throughput drops. swIfTransceiverType reveals whether an unexpected/unsupported SFP has been inserted, and swIfLockOperStatus shows whether port security has locked a port due to a MAC violation. swIfBackPressureMode and swIfTaggedMode round out the picture of flow-control and VLAN tagging behavior per interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface duplex admin/oper mode
  • port lock status
  • transceiver type
  • back-pressure flow control mode
  • VLAN tagged mode
  • interface type
