Category: Vendor: Dell

Description: Manages serial console port baud rate settings on Dell network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-BaudRate-MIB?

This is a Dell private enterprise MIB (using the "rl" object prefix inherited from the Rapid City/PowerConnect switch lineage) that manages the serial console (RS-232) port baud rate configuration on Dell managed network switches. It exposes a small set of configuration objects covering auto-baud detection status and the configured baud rate for the out-of-band console port, rather than broad performance or traffic data. In terms of hardware/software status monitoring, its main relevance is confirming whether auto-baud-rate negotiation is enabled and what rate will persist after a device reset, which is useful when troubleshooting console access issues after a reboot. It has no significant dependency on other MIBs beyond the vendor's private enterprise tree. It is typically deployed alongside other Dell "rl"-prefixed private MIBs on PowerConnect/N-series switches to support serial console management via SNMP-capable management stations. Engineers can download the Dell-BaudRate-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-BaudRate-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/N-Series managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling rlRs232AutoBaudRateStatus and rlRs232AutoBaudRateStatusAfterReset can confirm whether auto-baud detection is currently active on the console port and whether that setting will survive a reboot. Reading rlRs232BaudRate alongside rlRs232MibVersion verifies which fixed baud rate is configured, helping diagnose garbled or unresponsive serial console sessions after a device restart.

What Can Be Monitored

  • auto-baud rate detection status
  • auto-baud status after reset
  • configured console baud rate
  • MIB version
